Lucifer : A new side of Evil- S01

I just caught up with Lucifer a series that i was excited about to finally get a final season, if it isn’t gonna wrap up, I ain’t seeing it, I adopted this philosophy because what happened to Brooklyn 99 but this too had flaws,Game Of Thrones a show I only started 2 months before the airing of the eighth and final season which went like absolutely shit.

Now I’m not saying Brooklyn nine nine absolutely needs an ending, each episode had it’s own satisfying, disturbingly annoying and fulfilling ending of it’s own, it truly is a remarkable show. Talking about Lucifer, it portrays the devil in a new light, I’ve just finished the first season and it was not perfect 10 but it sure deserves an 8. The theme is intriguing, the story telling is hooking and we see the lost devil finally confronting his emotions and getting robbed, not able to get a woman in bed(he’s the bloody devil, how can he not), going to therapy, getting in fights, become mortal for some time, not getting along with his brother, loathing his father, being jealousy, getting murdered in the end finally and also putting to bed alot of women. And he absolutely doesn’t wish to be discreet either about his identity, he is quite literally named Lucifer Morningstar and goes on telling everyone, introducing him self as the devil.

I don’t know what is this obsession of ours with cop shows, i mean they are really easy to get behind and it is really easy showing a character’s development but seriously? A show about the Devil taking a vacation from hell on Earth, they somehow paired him with a lady cop and sent him chasing bad guys in Los Angeles. The plot sickened me i mean the introduction scene is so ambitious so full of possibilities, the devil is this really handsome looking fella who using his words with his creepy-creepy, charming vibe just talked out of a speeding ticket and then we find out he owns a bar, man so much potential wasted, but I kept watching anyway cause who doesn’t love cop dramas?

I really like the way in each episode the show addresses a really dark topic in a humoring way like the infamous, deal with the devil (Ghost Rider), and how the creepy cult sacrifices stuff is addressed as moronic by the Devil himself and how the victim of these cults and said to be innocent and misguided individuals who are not at fault at all. There’s also a jab at comical porn scenario where the pizza guy always gets laid cause the girl who doesn’t ordered pizza doesn’t have any money, yeah the devil gets the pizza guy laid for real this time, you know what I mean.

All the of that aside the show follows the same old philosophy as time itself a murder takes place in the beginning of the episode the runtime is occupied with the process of brainstorm, following clues and trying to catch the bad guy, the cases picked up by the show are decent not as good as cases on iZombie but these are acceptable. Where the show fails is telling the main storyline through these interim ones, it is not clear about that storyline either, it just comprises of some characters who all have some sort of role to play in the show but they do not collectively tell a story or don’t even fit together apparently, i mean i don’t want you to be at the level of Breaking Bad but at least give me some substance.

The lady cop has a sort of ex-husband cause the creators suddenly decided that he should be a main character, so they are working at their relationship just because and the relationship is so fragile that it was again broken up over a text, highschool level of stupidity. The worst part of all this is the explanation for past break-up it was just plain bullshit, because for someone work was more important than family and it does not freaking work because they both have the same freaking job to do. Their daughter is also a really good character and she has this great chemistry with Lucifer.

The show is trying really hard to do something but it just is not working for it, the priest character was supposed to show some room for good in Lucifer but it just isn’t happening, you can not pull a Zack Snyder’s Superman here killing a character before letting it breathe with audience and they expect a huge reaction, it just isn’t happening. If you Superman can’t make it work, bloody nobody can. The characters used for Lucifer’s development are as much forgettable as the developments themselves, the character does not seem to change at all it is like Captain America, he just stands still as a relic of the past and he’s nor he’s creators want him to change, but Lucifer is exactly the opposite the creators want him to show him changing but they can’t do so as the character has to have a starting point from which it changes to something else that Lucifer never had to start with. He is in a constant state of flux, we just can’t see it because he just doesn’t have a spine.

There is also a character of Maze, a demon created to protect Lucifer, this is all what she’ll do and nothing else. This is what I meant when I said there is no story (at least not a good one), everyone is just simply playing their part. She is currently falling for the angel and I’m sure they’ll mess this one up quite easily. Also this character is all about punishment, pain and sex, there is a scene where she is torturing someone by actively drowning them in a pool but that’s it, later she’s shown seeking improvement as she also is attending therapy now. I mean if she is all about sex, then let her show some skin, this isn’t airing on a radio where we’ll take your word for it, we need visuals to believe it. The ultimate sacrifice she made buy burning her one way ticket to hell to save the ebony angel also had no impact, maybe just maybe if she was show with the divine feather before hand and her intentions were made clear before hand it would have been less pointless, because an angel getting killed by a human is still balls.

Well we have the protagonist, Lucifer but we strongly lacks an antagonist , his brother just can not fill these shoes, the creators can not sell the idea of an evil angle. So, for the finale we get a pesky estranged human worm as our main form of evil,to defeat whom the devil and an angel has to team up and guess what this manically normal being nearly killed both of them and was finally shot down by that human lady cop pet of him, talk about bummers guys.

At least the story arc for season 2 looks promising as it is absolutely bonkers that their mother who was condemned to hell has broken loose as the devil is playing cop over here. God wants Lucifer to bring her in and I think that is gonna take up all of next season, the problem here was that angel pointed out that Lucifer is terrified, i mean we all are afraid of our mothers and it is quite literally the mother of devil himself, and he acknowledges that Lucifer is not afraid of anything, we didn’t knew that and as a result there’s no impact whatsoever. These little things, attention to detail is what makes a show great, nothing else will do it, this is the only way.
